Principal
Consultant Responsibilities David Binder is a Principal Consultant for Avid Learner Inc., based in Pittsburgh PA. His responsibilities include: • Consulting with clients on issues related to the selection, performance, development and management of knowledge workers. • Conducting needs analyses, designing and delivering development programs that improve the productivity of knowledge workers, and assessing their effectiveness.
David has worked with organizations in industries including manufacturing, high technology, banking, service, health care and government. He has extensive experience in delivering training on leadership, organizational change, team-building, problem-solving, productivity, performance management and selection skills to employees and all management levels. He has worked with Los Alamos National Laboratories, Sharp Laboratories of America, Hewlett-Packard, Eaton Corporation, PPG Industries, The Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, Learning Sciences International, and other clients on projects aimed at improving the productivity of knowledge workers through the use of the nine strategies described in How to be a Star at Work, written by David’s colleague, Dr. Robert Kelley. Before joining Avid Learner, David was an independent human resources and organization development consultant working on contract for several consulting firms. In this capacity with Development Dimensions International (DDI), he developed and delivered a variety of performance improvement programs for leaders in organizations like Kemper National Insurance Companies, Holnam, Inc., Michael Baker Corporation, and several divisions of the United States Army. David spent eight years as an account executive and senior consultant with DDI and five years as the Manager of Training and Organizational Development at Capital Blue Cross in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. David’s clients have appreciated his outstanding facilitation skills, his ability to link learning to business objectives and outcomes, his intense focus on customer satisfaction at all levels, and his content knowledge. He is frequently sought by customers to facilitate sessions for senior audiences, and he works effectively with all organization levels. Education/Professional Affiliations David received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982, and his Masters in Training and Organization Development from the Pennsylvania State University in 1993. David was a Board member for the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development from 1989-1994. He has served as a guest speaker for graduate classes at the Pennsylvania State University and Point Park College. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Retarded Citizens and the Pittsburgh NAMES Project.
